China Bluestar builds a large methionine plant
On January 18th, from the China National Bluestar (Group) Corporation, a message came from China Bluestar and its subsidiary Adisseo Group will build a new methionine production facility in China and plan to start production in 2011. It will fill the gaps in the country. Adisseo also introduced a plan for investing in its European production plants. This move will help increase the competitiveness of Adisseo in the methionine market and further consolidate the dominant position of the market.
The Adisseo Group joined China Bluestar in January 2006. The company is the second largest methionine producer in the world and the only company that can produce both solid and liquid methionine products. It has a leading position in the animal feed nutrition additive market. Mr. Gérard DEMAN, Chief Executive Officer of Adisseo, said that in the next 10 years, the demand for methionine in the Asia-Pacific region will account for more than half of the increase in the total demand of the international market. When the new plant was put into production in 2011, the current European methionine production capacity of Adisseo could not meet the needs of the international market, especially the Asian market.
The production capacity of the new methionine plant is planned to start at 70,000 tons/year and the total designed production capacity will be 140,000 tons/year. The project will be built in the petrochemical industrial zone of China’s Lanxing in the suburbs of Tianjin. The main raw materials needed (such as propylene, methanol, sulfur, etc.) can be provided locally.
At the same time, in the next two years, Adisseo will invest an additional 20 million euros in its production bases in France and Spain in order to increase the benefits of the methionine European production base.
